WOMAN POWER
Sahar Hashemi, Entrepreneur and Guru

Why would a successful London lawyer give up a lucrative practice? That is exactly what Sahar Hashemi and her brother, an investment banker from New York, did when they left their cushy jobs to start Coffee Republic. What makes their decision even more impressive is that they were starting their company in tea crazy England. Their dream became such a success that it is now stuff of legends.

When Sahar was in New York, she enjoyed the variety of coffees and goodies being served in coffee shops springing up around the Big Apple so much that she decided the Brits could be converted. The story of creating her brand in England is so impressive that Sahar decided to write her recipe for success for all the other would-be entrepreneurs. She refers to it as a story about two people who “stopped thinking about it “ and just “did it”.

Sahar Hashemi’s book, “anyone can do it - Building Coffee Republic from our Kitchen table” required her to leave the day-to-day management of the business, but to the hundreds of thousands who have read it, this has been a blessing.

Soon after being published in January 2003, ‘Anyone Can Do It’ reached #1 on the Amazon business chart. If you attend the London Business School’s entrepreneurship course, this book is on your suggested reading list

Sahar’s success has been featured on CNN, BBC and London’s Radio 4 and she has been named one of the 100 Most Influential Women in Britain 2003. She is also a speaker ambassador for the Prince’s Trust as well as lecturing at the London Business School Entrepreneurship School.

It will not be long before we have a line of ‘Anyone Can Do It’ books and a possible ‘Anyone Can Do It’’ television series according to those close to her.

To us, at Salam Worldwide, this is just another example of the power of the Iranian woman. Bravo!
