Find out if you’re a human doormat
1. Your friends make the same plans to party
the night away at a dance club every weekend. You find it
boring and also don’t appreciate the smoky atmosphere and
sleazy men. Once in a while it would be nice just to go for
a nice dinner or a movie. Do you
a. Voice your opinion and suggest other plans
to your friends?
b. Make up an excuse why you can’t go to the club?
c. Just grin and bear it (You don’t want to antagonize your
friends).
2. Your boyfriend loves Mexican food but you
hate it. Do you
a. Bring home pizza “for a change”?
b. Cook a separate Mexican meal for him, while you nibble
on your carrot sticks?
c. Meet him at El Pollo Loco?
3. Your best friend asks you if she can pull
off that micro mini. You think she looks like a slut. Do you
say
a. Hon, wouldn’t it be better to leave something
to the imagination?
b. Hmmmm… It’s very nice, but you also look very nice when
you wear…
c. Oh, it looks fabulous!
4. You’ve settled in comfortably in your pajamas
and fluffy bunny slippers in front of your favorite old movie,
with a bag of popcorn by your side. Suddenly, your friends
call you because they need a ride. Do you
a. Tell them to get a cab!
b. Tell them you will give them your car keys for the evening
but they have to manage to get to your house first.
c. Jump into the car without bothering to change.
5. You bought a brand new CD you’ve been dying
for. The wrapper is not off yet when your cousin asks you
if she can borrow it (She has a long road trip ahead of her).
Do you say
a. Don’t you have a radio in your car?
b. Okay but please be careful with it!
c. Consider this a gift from me to you.
Give yourself: 1 pt for every a answer
2 pts for every b answer
3 pts for every c answer
Results:
0-5: Well you certainly don’t mince words!
It is great that you are so assertive and you don’t let others
walk all over you however always putting yourself first is
not always appropriate. The ability to bend a little and compromise
will ensure a healthier relationship for you and your friends.
5-10: You are a great giver, which is a commendable
quality, however please take time to analyze whether you are
receiving tit for tat. Although true friends don’t keep score,
it is important to have a balanced relationship too, just
to make sure you are not taken disadvantage of, and that your
kindness is not mistaken for weakness.
10-15: When you were standing in line for
God to create you, he ran out of spine and put jelly into
you instead. It’s one thing to be nice and friendly but methinks
you more often than not say “yes” when you mean “no.” Please
have some respect for yourself and draw boundaries: You are
entitled to your feelings, your own likes and dislikes. It
is high time others took notice.
