Please, I hope the woman on your cover “Summer Getaway”
was an Iranian model. She definitely makes my top ten sexiest list!!!
Shahram, Philadelphia.
Yikes!!! I wanted to forget the picture of Mohammed
al-Dura. Opening the page to see the vision of a father and son
riddled with bullets was a nightmare that any father would fear.
Why did you have to remind me of it???
H., Los Angeles.
Why don’t you call Jo-ana D’Balcazar’s article what
it is? Which is anti-Palestinian hate mongering. Curious that you
would have both her and your editorial on Mohammed al-Dura in the
same issue. Whose side are you on anyway?
Mohammed Q., Encino.
That picture of the Iranian in hunger strike protest
was moving, terrifying, and touching. The asylum process in Europe
and America is a joke. How can you stifle human rights to meet bureaucratic
quotas? It boggles the mind.
Sharareh, via email.
That dude with the sewn up eyes and mouth is just
a nut! He is not in detention. He has won his case. Why would he
do this?
S.T., Sherman Oaks.
Thanks for the summer getaways and best beaches
2003. However, I am disappointed you would fail to mention as a
perfect summer resort the party central that is Miami!
John T. Seattle
…Australia!!!
Rose, Calabasas.
… The mesmerizing Deauville.
Shervineh, Pasadena.
Thank you for once including some beefcake instead
of your usual T&A. Women have needs too you know! I really enjoyed
drooling over the Thunder from Down Under.

Even though it is supposed to be humorous, I think
Ziba’s recent column on tanning is very insensitive with her comments
on siaa-soukhteh, literally translated as “burnt black” versus sefid
or “white” as the ideal of beauty. This is nothing but the perpetuation
of racist and prejudicial attitudes which had lighter-skinned, European
looking Iranian women such as Googoosh be the ideal of beauty to
the detriment of their darker-toned sisters. The African American
community has recognized and addressed this problem with their Black
is Beautiful campaign. Please we should do the same and not continue
the bad attitudes.
Azam N., via email.
I really love those photographs in the section “Snaps.”
But please, can we have more photos like them in your magaizne.
It is rare to catch a glimpse of Iran let alone from an Iranian
artist’s view. Thanks a bunch.
